2015 Zap Amateur World Championships
Dewey Beach, Delaware is something else, that’s why we’ve been coming back for the past thirty-four years. It’s a melting pot of all cultures confined to one stretch of beach, which makes for a pretty interesting scene. Competitors came from both coasts to throw down for a chance at their respected titles. With so much diversity on one beach, it’s refreshing to see a unifying passion for the sport. We couldn’t be happier to support such an amazing event and promote skimboarding in a positive direction. Like always, Skim USA and all those who volunteered did a great job to ensure the event ran smoothly. Our thanks go out to everyone that joined us this weekend and made the Zap Amateur World Championships such a great event.
Day one was rough. The air was cold, the wind was onshore and the waves were washed out. Although the conditions were unfavorable, it provided an opportunity to showcase diversified riding. The competitors made the most out the conditions, and displayed their technical skills with more shuv-its than wraps. After a long-winded day, we were all ready for some sunshine.
Day two delivered. The air heated up and so did the riding. All the conditions came together to make for one great competition. There was swell in the water and competition on the beach. The riders surely didn’t dissapoint as they put on quite the show.
Our team killed it this event, and decorated the podium in various divisions. Our newest rider, Matt Buchanan decided to make this event his grand appearance by taking first in the men’s division and second in semi-pro. We’re super stoked for Lucas McCoy and his semi-pro win. This kid has been killing it on the tour and it paid off this event. We’re even more proud to announce that Lucas has decided to continue challenging himself by going pro. Keep it up boys!
Although the main focus of the event was skimboarding, there was another competition: the first annual Team Challenge. All the competitors represented their respected sponsors, and competed in various challenges to bring home a beautifully, hand painted parrot trophy. There was a pie eating contest, a three-legged race, egg-spoon race and an egg toss. Everyone had fun and had a good time, but team Zap brought home the parrot. We’ll be proudly displaying this trophy in our factory.
Once again, this was one of our favorite contests of they year and we look forward to supporting this contest in the coming years.
