Hey guys, the second part of our trip has been going great. Mega and I flew down to southern Brazil to a famous surf town called Florianopolis. This place is known for huge waves and a beautiful landscape. We had high hopes to find some new skim beaches but unfortunately we only had swell on the first day and the remainder of our trip was pretty flat. We found a few beaches with skim potential but with such small/flat swell none of them were working. We ended up just surfing and skimming at the beach where our hotel was at Praia Mole. Was pretty fun for the most part but not quite what we were looking for.
After Florianopolis we made our way to Ubatuba, where the famous beach Sununga is located. The report showed that there was a good amount of swell in the water, so we were excited. But upon arrival Sununga was flat, lacking south swell which is needed for waves to reach the beach and for the sider to work. So we linked up with local friend Iran and hopped on a small boat, heading to a secluded beach that catches more swell them most. This spot is difficult to capture on film since you have to swim to the beach with all of your camera gear. The swell was big as well but luckily all of our gear made it safe with our semi waterproof bag. haha. The tide was too low at first so we skurfed and surfed until it came up. As the tide came up the waves got pretty good with nice wedges for wraps and even a few liners. Turned out to be a successful trip.
The past few days have been really hot with not much swell, we hit a few other beaches around town that have been fun but nothing great. We still are waiting for south swell and a session at our favorite beach, Sununga. Tomorrow Jason Wilson and Bruno Sá arrive and next week is the start of the UST Event. Can’t wait for everyone to get hear and the good times ahead. A few photos from Florianopolis below and our boat trip which ended up being our best session of the second part of our trip. Enjoy!
