Event Recap: Oktoberfest

This past weekend the Oktoberfest went down at Balboa pier in Newport Beach, CA. It was the last event of the season and the waves were nothing short of amazing for it. There was some intense battles in the Pro divisions that went down from what we heard.

Lets begin with Yahir Valencia.. He made the trip with older brother Gerardo Valencia to the event and it was his first time in competing in America. He is young.. 14 years old young.. and had a 2nd round heat with Sam Stinnett and Blair Conklin. He managed to advance with Sam and knocked out Blair which most people thought would of put him out of the Title race. The next day he had a heat with Lucas Fink who was battling with Blair for the World Title. Lucas had to win the heat with Yahir to win the World Title. Guess what happened? Yahir beat Lucas to prevent that from happening. He was playing the heart breaker role all weekend and Blair ended up liking Yahir a little more after he took Lucas out;) Yahir finished in 3rd this weekend and its safe to say he may be contending for some titles in the future!

Gerardo had a very strong showing with a 7th place finish along with Mason Broussard who made a few rounds in his first trip out to California. They were a lot of fun to watch with their extremely technical skimboarding.

Casey Kiernan tore it up all weekend and took home 1st Place in the Women's Professional against some very strong competition. We are super stoked for her as we know she was motivated to end the season on a strong note!

In the Amateur ranks, Zap team rider Sydney Pizza took home the win her division! She was amped up for the competition and ready to show her prowess in the waves out west. She capped of a very strong contest season in a great way.

What a great way to end the season. Be sure to give all the sponsors such as Exile, Elevate, & Main Street Surf shop a big thanks for putting on these contests. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make these happen. We look forward to next year and can't wait to see everyone out on the beach again.
