RECAP | 2025 Sea Bright Skim Bash in Sea Bright, NJ

    Words: Sydney Pizza

The 21st annual Sea Bright Skim Bash in New Jersey has just wrapped up and ended the 2025 SkimUSA tour on a very high note! With varying conditions and weather all weekend, the Zap team made the best of it, demonstrating their wide range of abilities and versatility in all conditions, all with big smiles on their faces!

Due to some uninviting thunderstorms throughout the weekend, we had two shorter days with varying call times. Saturday started early around 8:30am with the opening rounds of the pros. Showing the best conditions of the weekend with some open faced 1’-2’ swell, a little after dead high tide. Team riders Eoin Lally, Elian Juarez, and Lucas McCoy were in attendance and ready to rip. Starting off strong, with plenty of combos to go around, both Lucas and Elian made it through the first round into round two to meet Eoin in the Quarterfinals. After hard fought heats in some southeast winds, Eoin and Lucas prevailed and moved onto day two, psyched with a top four podium finish.

After a couple of rounds of the Semi-Pros, and younger divisions we saw the Grandmasters take the stage, around dead low tide. Team rider Alex Bevard breezed right through to the finals with poise and style, in flatgroud conditions, with some small whitewash bumps washing up the beach into a tide pool. Wrapping up the day our Menehune Monsters were right back to where they left things off in Dewey. Gio Tomasi and Brody Chandler-Thompson had great heats showing great promise for what is to come for the future of the sport, stomping bigger spins, and combos that were too quick to keep up with! Both Gio and Brody moved right into the semi-finals for finals day!

Sunday started off with stronger northwest winds after some thunderstorms early in the morning we had a 10am call. The wind ended up switching on shore around 11am and dying off completely around 1pm. Keeping everyone on their toes, even in the rain, the pro men took to the water with Lucas facing off against local Aidan Stevenson, and Eoin charging against Chester Burnette. Eoin advanced through his semi-final into the final with finesse, style, and airs that got the beach going! Lucas put up a great fight against Aidan, with innovative combos and style showing that he can keep up with the new generation, landed in a very poised 3rd place for the weekend! Eoin gave it all he had in the final, getting edged out by just 0.14 points in the final. He went to the air with both aerial combinations and re-entries, plus his unique style that made everyone cheer him on! Our pro men finished with Eoin securing 2nd, Lucas in 3rd, and Elian wrapping up the podium in 6th. This will close out the standings for the pro men, putting Eoin 4th overall, and Elian 7th overall on the SkimUSA tour for 2025, their best results as professionals yet!

With the rain lightening up and eventually stopping it was Alex’s time to take it all home with flatland combos and speed runs with alley-oop maneuvers that took over, all while keeping his hair dry! This win for Alex was the cherry on top for a great season, with a tour title win as well! Great job this year Alex!

Wrapping up the day, tour, and Menehune careers for our “Menehune Monsters” as they will be moving up next year, Gio and Brody went out with a bang! Skimming strategically and making sure they had fun, both Brody and Gio moved into the final, and absolutely killed it! When their final came around both skimmers were primed and ready to go, giving it everything they had. Both finding some speed liners to 3-shuvs, flat ground combos, and trying new things, they had a ball. Brody secured the three best waves of the heat and a 1st place finish! Gio was not far behind him stomping a clean bigger spin and trying new things, landed in 2nd place! Wrapping up the tour for the Menehunes Gio took the tour title just 200 points ahead of Brody, shaping up to be a personal favorite rivalry of the season! Well done boys!

That’s a wrap on the 2025 SkimUSA season, we could not be more grateful for all the smiles, good times and hospitality of everyone that we got to share time with on the tour! See you guys in Newport Beach, CA for the end of 2025 United Skim Tour, on September 27th & 28th
