The 46th annual Vic skimboarding competition took place on August 26th and 27th at Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach, California. For the professional men’s division of the UST (United Skim Tour), this was the fifth of six events.
Top Zap team rider Yahir Valencia finished third with a brilliant performance despite suffering a tough semi-final loss to Blair Conklin who went on to win in the final against Lucas Fink. The competition saw many wraps throughout the event, with the best of the weekend caught by Gerardo Valencia, Yahir’s brother. He slid far out over dead water to wrap the overhead wave, glided down the face celebrating with his arms up high and then did a 360 shuvit before tucking into a small barrel. He received the award for the best ride of the weekend for that wave! Brazilian team rider Bruno Sá also had a standout performance on day one of competition with exciting power turns, and dazzling barrels before going down to Yahir and Timmy Gamboa in round two, which was stacked with some very heavy heats!
It was a fun skim trip for the boys in Laguna Beach with an opportunity to taste some Pacific Ocean juice after a long summer on the Gulf and East Coast.
