Cabo San Lucas, Mexico has been a proving ground for skimboarders for a long time. Solmar and Lovers Beach are to skimmers what the North Shore of Hawaii is to surfers. If you can skim these spots, you can handle some of the heaviest shorebreak in the world!
Last month, our top professional riders: Gerardo & Yahir Valencia, Leo Freitas, John Akerman, Ellian Juarez, Dave Armstrong, and Sydney Pizza traveled to Cabo San Lucas to compete in El Rey De Lovers; the first stop of the 2024 United Skim Tour season. This was a special competition with the previous UST Cabo event taking place over 10 years ago, making this year's event somewhat of a reunion for many long time members of the skim community and industry.
Conditions pumped all three days of competition giving riders powerful wedging wraps and secondary lines in the most dreamy scenery that makes Lovers Beach one of the most beautiful beaches on the Baja Peninsula.
Our team showed out hard bringing the energy and vibes to the competition daily. Yahir dominated every heat with the biggest wraps and air drops of the weekend crowning him El Rey De Lovers. Following up in 3rd place was his brother Gerardo Valencia, who dazzled the crowd with exciting airs and an entertaining performance. Our newest team rider Leo Freitas from Brazil skimmed strong and proved his place on the pro team with a big 5th place finish. The entire crew charged all trip including female pro Sydney Pizza, who put herself to the test in the biggest waves she has ever ridden! It was one of the most exciting skimboarding competitions we have participated in for a long time.
