The 2025 Zap Pro/Am has come to a close and there are not enough words to cover all the epicness that happened this weekend! After a full morning of pros only, the amateurs got their center stage moment, and they shined bright like the stars they are!! Walking onto McKinley Street, on a bright and sunny Sunday morning, the conditions had cleaned up the best that they were going to get all weekend with a 5mph NE wind that gave the swell some flavor, and a solid 2’-3’ foot bump still pushing through, you just knew it was going to be a memorable day! There was a wave for everyone, goofy bowls, reggy wraps, and sneaky liners that would carry you any direction, it was awesome!
Starting off the day the pro men were back in action in their round 3 heats, where Mason, and Gerardo both advanced to the quarter finals to go head-to-head against Joao Guedes and Lucas Fink, respectively. After hard fought heats, our boy Mason finished in a very respectable 5 th place for the weekend! Throwing big backside 360 re-entries, frontside 180s back up the beach, 360s and 3-shuvs out he put on a fantastic show!
The pro women followed suit, and we watched our girls Emma and Alex go to work in their semi-final heats against, Eve and Rylea two other Dewey locals. These match-ups were undeniably entertaining and had the whole beach on the edge of their seats! With air re-entries, big spins on the lip and back up the beach, with critical shuv-it and big wraps and bashes Alex and Emma had a great weekend with Alex pulling out the hometown victory and Emma finishing in 3 rd place. These ladies continue to push the sport with their distinct styles, and critical section tech. This was a huge victory for Alex and her UST title chase for the 2025 season and puts her in great position as we move to the west coast to wrap up the UST tour! We are very proud of our girls and can’t wait to see what they do in Cali!
Moving straight into the Menehune semi-finals, our boys, Brody and Gio, got back to work skimming effortlessly, in shoulder high conditions, with wraps and combos that leave you jaw-dropped, considering they are 10 years old. Following them were the Semi-Pro, Grandmasters, Men’s, and Women’s finals. Zach Rubin put on a great show, in both the Semi-Pro and Men’s finals finishing in 4 th place in Semi-Pro and 3rd place in the Men’s division!
Kate Warrington and Alex Bevard took home the gold this weekend in the Women’s and Grandmasters divisions skimming great heats, in some difficult conditions as the tide was dropping out. They absolutely dominated and are well on their way to securing their respective 2025 SkimUSA tour titles for their divisions! Well done guys! There was no better way to round out the day and this unforgettable weekend than with our Menehune Monsters! Gio and Brody did the best they could with some more difficult conditions that were pretty far out, and Gio pushing through a mid-heat injury, the boys went all out!
Opting for the smaller inside sections, combos a plenty were to be seen from Brody as he brought out all the stops for a very well-earned 2 nd place finish and Gio took home 4th after deciding to keep skimming and not give up, way to go boys! As always, we are very proud of the team, not just for how they skim but the people they are, well done!
