The Beach Bash was a free event hosted by Shrd Mthd at Lido Beach on September 12, 2026. Shrd Mthd’s mission is to build community through free events that give people of all abilities the opportunity to learn and participate in action sports.
Founded by Mackenzie Brown, Shrd Mthd focuses on creating an inclusive, low-pressure environment where participants and their families can try something new, spend time together, and connect with others in the community. Mackenzie believes everyone deserves an equal opportunity to participate in sports, including action sports.
Action sports can sometimes be perceived as inaccessible because of the balance, coordination, energy, and instruction they require. Shrd Mthd works to break down those barriers by bringing together experienced athletes, adaptive coaches, families, and participants so everyone can share their skills and learn from one another.
At the Beach Bash, Mackenzie was joined by three athletes (Benny Ray, Graham Shelton, & Camden White) who helped teach participants the fundamentals of skimboarding and shared their experience and love of the sport.
The Beach Bash was a great example of that mission in action. Participants had the opportunity to get out on the beach, try action sports they may not otherwise have access to, and learn in an environment where there was no pressure or expectation to perform. The goal was simply to create an opportunity for people to connect, have fun, learn something new, and experience the joy of action sports together.
Zap Skimboards donated demo boards for the event, giving participants the opportunity to try skimboarding and experience the sport firsthand. Having access to equipment and knowledgeable people willing to share their skills is an important part of creating opportunities for more people to discover action sports.
Shrd Mthd’s next free skimboard event will take place on 10/31/26 at Lido Beach at 9 AM.
