This past Saturday was the second annual “Hang Ten for Autism” at Siesta Beach, a free event for children with autism aged 3-17 and their families. The event was conceived by Dr. Kirstina Ordetx, president of the Center for Autism Resources and Education in Sarasota, or CARE, along with Benny Ray, an employee at the Compound Boardshop of Sarasota.
Sponsors included Compound Boardshop, Zap Skimboards, Outback Steakhouse and The Surfin’ Plumbers. Numerous other local businesses contributed merchandise, food and services this year.
More than 100 adult volunteers from as far away as Fort Myers and Tampa helped 80 children affected with the neurological disorder autism, most from the Sarasota area.

Zap team guys Stephen Bradford, Justin Boisclair, Dave Scott, Zach Smetts, Brian Smetts, and Blake Smetts all showed up to help out with the event. All of the kids had a blast skimboarding and it was amazing to see how talented they were. The event went great and we were excited to be apart of it for the second year.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event possible!
