The longest running skimboard contest in the world, the Vic, just celebrated it’s 48th year. Taking place in Laguna Beach, CA, this contest has seen some of skim’s heaviest contest riding over the years. With the contest site being nestled right next to the famous Balboa Pier, known for heavy shore pound, the stage was set for an epic time.

Zap riders Leo Freitas, Gerardo Valencia, and Mason Broussard, along with photographer Devin Demenezes, made sure to get in a warm up session at the site the day before the event so they could dial it in. When contest time came around the following day, the crew was locked in and it was on.

Meeting up with other team riders Alex Yokley and Brody Chandler-Thompson, the crew took to the waters of Aliso Beach. Unfortunately for Gerardo and Mason, they were knocked out of finals contention which only left Leo in the mix. Ending up with a respectable 6th place finish, Leo crushed it!

The real star of the event was our very own Alex Yokley. Alex has been grinding on the UST all year long and she put an exclamation point on her season by not only claiming first place for the Pro Women for this event, but securing UST Women’s title! Congrats, Alex!
