Yahir Valencia claimed the top spot at the Vic this past weekend in Laguna Beach, California. The Vic skimboard competition is one of the longest running skimboard events and has tons of history behind it. For Yahir, this is his biggest win of his skimboard career and he deserves every bit of it!
At the contest, the waves were outstanding for the whole weekend providing optimal conditions for the riders. Yahir favors large wave conditions and impressed the crowd all weekend long. There was many contested heats and none more than the Final where Yahir met local rider Tim Fulton. They went back to back scoring big wrap barrels but in the end Yahir Valencia took the top spot.
Gerardo Valencia was turning heads all weekend as well. He has been riding a new prototype shape that will be released soon and was making it to sections that looked impossible to reach. He advanced all the way to Round 4 before he was knocked out of the competition. It was a very tight heat and we are always proud of the way that Gerardo holds it down at the contests!
In the Women Professional division, the ladies stood out all weekend and were charging the macking conditions at Aliso Beach. We are proud of Zap team riders Alex Yokley and Casey Kiernan who had very tough heats early on and placed 5th and 6th respectively.
The next stop on the UST Skim tour is in Spain and we are stoked to see how this International event plays out!
