The Lavallette, NJ Skim Comp is more than just a competition for John Fata, it’s part of something bigger. A culmination of days spent at the beach and passion poured into the sport of skimboarding. On July 19th, it all goes down on Brown Ave in Lavellette, NJ. There will be divisions for everyone and all are welcome to compete. Not only that but all donations will go to Waves of Impact, a non-profit that "provides access to the healing and therapeutic power of the ocean to individuals with exceptional challenges.” Make sure to contact (973) 935-4856 or @lavellette_skim_competition to register and we’ll see you there!

“Ever since I was very young I have been in love with the sport of skim boarding. But once I got older I slowly but sadly realized that the skimboard community in my area was basically non-existent. I had 2 or 3 friends who I would meet up with who also truly understood skim boarding but that was all. At the age of 16, I wanted to change that so I started up the Lavallette Skimboard Competition. But I didn’t just want to do a competition, I wanted to make sure that there was a true meaning behind it. I’ve always known about Waves of Impact, which is a non profit organization that helps kids with disabilities experience the ocean and helps them surf as well. So I wanted to make it so it was a donation to them! I made the entry fee your choice of donation, had raffles and shirts for sale! In my first year I had around 15-20 kids, ran all judging through pen and paper and raised $1,200 for waves of impact. But the second year is when things took a huge jump! I had 50 competitors, ran all judging and heats through live heats local pros from NJ and Delaware came and we raised $2000 all for Waves of Impact! But this year we are looking to go even bigger with a goal of $2,500 all for waves of impact and much more competition and competitors. So make sure to come out this year and be a part of something great and for an amazing cause! I think I can safely say I made a huge turn around in the skimboard community in the Lavallette NJ area! Since the competition started local kids and teens have taken a lot more interest in the sport. Many of them ask me for tips, advice and even lessons. I hosted a free clinic last August and 30 kids/teens took part. This took me to the next level of building up the community with the brand with the first ever Lavallette skim camp being held all summer long.“ – John Fata
