The 2nd Annual Skim For CF made for an awesome day all around with 45 competitors! The competition kicked off shortly after the 9am riders meeting where participants and spectators learned about cystic fibrosis, Piper's Angels Foundation and The Crossing For Cystic Fibrosis, of which their entry fees and donations support. There was quite a bit of semi-clean swell that stuck around all day, but provided really fun reform at the lower tide and some solid waves as we approached high tide. All of the competitors were stoked for the light wind and good waves for each heat. This gave everyone a fair chance at showcasing their talent and capitalizing on each scoring wave.
Thanks to Treasure Coast Boardriders Club, we were able to utilize automatic scoring through LiveHeats. Riders were able to know what their current score was during their heat and what scores they needed to advance. This always brings out the best competition with each rider pushing for those higher numbers.
On the lunch break, many epic prizes were raffled off, including a size of choice Casey Pro Model Fuse-X board, donated by Zap Skimboards. After the pizza, cookies, birthday cake, and prizes, the waves turned on even better and this is when the nominations for Best Trick/Ride and Biggest Air came in strong. Dylan Duncan had an incredibly smooth hands behind the back 360 spin to backside wrap and a solid big spin back up the beach that claimed Best Trick/Ride, which was $100 cash sponsored by Amber Torrealba. For the Biggest Air sponsored by Clay Crozier, with only a couple minutes left in the Pro Final, Yahir Valencia stuck a clean, single grab inverted 360 air out the back. As imagined, the crowd went wild!
We wrapped up the event with the awards ceremony and after party at Spunky's Surf Shop and with Kona Ice! This was a fun spot to get together and end a great contest!
